Love Perseveres - 1 CORINTHIANS 13:7 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Moderate

While the weather in the Valley of the Sun has been perfect hiking weather, we are going to once again stay close to home and hike on four different trails on South Mountain. We will start with the challenge of the Holbert trail. Although it does ascend, the incline is mildly challenging. Holbert is a busy trail that many locals use as their fitness climb. Once to the top of Holbert the rest of the hike is full of beautiful landscapes of green and even some of the flowers are blooming. We will pass directly under the infamous towers on South Mountain. We can stop at the Gila Valley Lookout which is the highest point by trail, on South Mountain. Our descent travels 2.5 miles through the National trail offering beautiful views of the Estrellas. We continue down onto the Kiwanis trail and wash for another mile with again lush landscapes. The final journey on Las Lomitas cuts across the open desert  floor back to our start point.

The trails are for the most part very well maintained. Of course we will have some
areas of boulders and uneven rocks, but all are manageable. Poles are great for this hike if you use them.

We will arrive at the church by 8:00 AM to quickly group-up and head out to the trailhead.

Registration is No Charge but please register so we know you are coming: CLICK the REGISTER BUTTON to join the Mountain Park team.

WHAT TO BRING:

  • 2 liters of water
  • Closed toe hiking shoes
  • Hat
  • Sunscreen is highly recommended as the trails are mostly in the sun.
  • There are some pesky flies so maybe even bug repellant
  • Hiking poles if you use them.
  • Watch the forecast and dress in appropriate layers.
  • Bring your trail snacks and we can spend a few minutes at the lookout to grab a bite of whatever you want to bring.
